Introduction to learn online intercept:

Intercept:

Intercept of a line can be defined as a point at which a line, curve, or surface intersects an axis.

Intercept is an intercepted segment of a line.

X – Intercept:

The x-intercept is defined as the point at which the line cuts the X-axis.

The x-intercept is given as (x, 0).

Y – Intercept:

The y-intercept is defined as the point at which the line cuts the Y-axis.

Learn online intercept with examples:


A few example problems are given below to show how we can learn intercept through online.

Example: 1

Find x and y intercept of the equation 9x + 6y =18.

Solution

To find x intercept, plug y =0 in the equation and solve for x.

9x + 6y = 18

9x + 6(0) = 18

9x = 18

x = 18 / 9

x = 2

Therefore, the x-intercept = ( 2,0 ).

To find y intercept, plug x=0 in the equation and solve for y.

9x + 6y = 18

9(0) + 6y = 18

6y = 18

y = 18 /6

y = 3

Therefore, the y-intercept = (0, 3).

Example: 2

Find x and y intercept of the equation 3y = 6x + 24

Solution

To find x intercept, plug y =0 in the equation and solve for x.

3y = 6x + 24

3(0) = 6x + 24

0 = 6x + 24

-24 = 6x

-24 / 6 = x

-4 = x

x = -4

Therefore, the x-intercepts is (-4, 0)

To find y intercept, plug x=0 in the equation and solve for y.

3y = 6x + 24

3y = 6(0) + 24

3y = 0 + 24

3y = 24

y = 24/3

y = 8

Therefore, the y-intercepts is (0, 8)

Find x and y intercept for the following equations,

y = 8x + 3
3x = -y + 9
y =x - 6
12y = -4x + 3
Solutions:

1) x intercept = (-3/8, 0)

y intercept =(0, 3)

2) x intercept = (3, 0)

y intercept = (0, 9)

3) x intercept = (6, 0)

y intercept = (0, -6)

4) x intercept = (3/4, 0)

y intercept = (0, 1/4)
