Doing Fractions Online

Introduction for Fractions:

A fraction (from the Latin fractus, broken) is a number that can represent part of a whole. The earliest fractions were reciprocals of integers: ancient symbols representing one part of two, one part of three, one part of four, and so on. A much later development were the common or "vulgar" fractions which are still used today (½, ?, ¾, etc.) and which consist of a numerator and a denominator.

Doing Fractions Online for Addition:


The followings are some of the examples in addition for fractions online.

Add the fractions: `3/8 + 4/8` .

Solution:

= `3/8+4/8`

= `(3+4)/8`

= `7/8`

Add the fractions: `2/6+3/4`

Solution:

In this the denominators are different in them.

Then we have to find a LCM for these denominators.

The LCM of 6, 4 = 24

So `(2*6)/(6*4)` = `12/24`

`(3*6)/(4*6)` = `18/24`

In this the denominators are equal so we can add the numerator in the fractions.

=`12/24 ` + `18/24`

=`(12+18)/24`

=`30/24` is the answer.

Add the fractions: `4/3+5/2`

Solution:

In this the denominators are different in them.

Then we have to find a LCM for these denominators.

The LCM of 3, 2 = 6

So `(4*2)/(3*2)` = `8/6`

`(5*3)/(2*3)` = `15/6`

In this the denominators are equal so we can add the numerator in the fractions.

=`8/6 ` + `15/6`

=`(15+8)/6`

=`23/6` is the answer.


Doing Fractions Online for Subtraction:


The followings are some of the examples in subtraction for fractions online.

Subtract the fractions:  `3/8-4/8` .

Solution:

= `3/8-4/8`

= `(3-4)/8`

= `-1/8`

Subtract the fractions: `3/4-2/5` .

Solution:

In this the denominators are different in them.

Then we have to find a LCM for these denominators.

The LCM of 4, 5 = 20

So `(3*5)/(4*5)` = `15/20`

`(2*4)/(5*4)` = `8/20`

In this the denominators are equal so we can add the numerator in the fractions.

=`15/20-8/20`

=`(15-8)/20`

=`7/20` is the answer.

Subtract the fractions: `2/6-3/4` .

Solution:

In this the denominators are different in them.

Then we have to find a LCM for these denominators.

The LCM of 6, 4 = 24

So `(2* 6)/(6*4)` = `12/24`

`(3*6)/(4*6)` = `18/24`

In this the denominators are equal so we can add the numerator in the fractions.

=`12/24-18/24`

=`(12-18)/24`

=`-6/24` is the answer.

These are the examples on doing fractions online.
