Learning arithmetic operations through online::

Arithmetic operations:

  • Addition
  • Subtraction
  • Multiplication
  • Division

Addition operation:

Addition operation is the basic operation in arithmetic.

It is denoted by the symbol ( + )

It produces the sum of two numbers. For example, 3 + 4 = 7

Subtraction operation:

Subtraction operation is opposite to the operation of addition.

It is denoted by the symbol ( - ).

It produces difference between the two numbers. For example, 7 - 6 = 1

Multiplication operation:

Multiplication operation is the second basic operation in arithmetic.

It is denoted by the symbols ( * ).

It produces the product of two numbers. For example, 2 * 3 = 6

Division operation:

Division operation is opposite to the operation of multiplication.

It is denoted by the symbol ( ÷ )

It produces quotient of two numbers.

Online arithmetic example problems:

Example problem 1:

Add the numbers 234 and 456

Solutions:

Step 1: Given numbers

234 and 456

Step 2: Add first digit from left of the two numbers

4 + 6 = 10

Keep 0 as left most digit and keep 1 as carry

Step 3: Add second digit from left of the two numbers with carry

1 + 3 + 5 = 9

Step 4: : Add third digit from left of the two numbers

2 + 4 = 6

2            3            4

4            5            6

--------------------------------------

6             9             0

--------------------------------------

Step 5: Solution

234 + 456 = 690

Example problem 2:

Subtract 145 from 267

Solution:

Step 1: Given numbers

145 and 267

Step 2: Subtract first digit from left of the number 145 from 267 i.e.,

7 - 5 = 2

Step 3: Subtract second and third digit from left of the number 145 from 267 i.e.,

6 - 4 = 2

2 - 1 = 1

2        6        7

1        4        5   ( - )

-----------------------------

1       2          2

-----------------------------

Step 4: Solution
